Park Secret lifts our spirits with ‘Happy To Be Here’
We’re all familiar with that mid-week slump; when the burn out is starting to set in and the weekend is but a speck on the horizon. However, this feeling of malaise is also the perfect atmosphere in which to seek out endorphin inducing music that’ll help you through the rest of the week. Our current remedy to low energy is the Pennsylvania based outfit Park Secret‘s new single ‘Happy To Be Here’.
Recorded and produced in a bedroom, it’s a jovial display of alt-pop and indie-rock sensibilities that’ll have you bopping along to the bouncing rhythms and earwormy melodies. It’s a relatively simple set-up, anchored on a steady tempo and circular sonic motifs, but that also allows plenty of room for the vocalist’s wandering thoughts. At certain points, the dreamy-eyes tones hop on the drum and bass’ choppy rhythm. While elsewhere the singer takes a more melodic approach to complement the minimalist guitar refrain.
On the surface, the lyrics speak of the bittersweet end of summer, but on closer inspection, it’s the internal struggles of mental and emotional health wherein lies the true meaning of ‘Happy To Be Here’. Indeed, you will probably pick up on the track’s recurrent line, “I’m happy to be here, I made it through another day.” In closing, Park Secret lead us out with a celebration of strutting guitars, uptempo drums, and grooving bass. You can’t help but feel a little lighter after listening to this.
