Park Secret: A Musical Odyssey of
Authenticity and Self-Expression
Park Secret is the vibrant culmination of Greg Ritchie's lifelong journey in music and self-expression. With roots in a music-loving household and a diverse background in theater and competitive swimming, Greg's innate creativity and disciplined routine naturally led him to the practice of music as his most consistent outlet. Greg's early exposure to performing on stage and his love for guitar music laid the foundation for his distinctive sound, where the guitar takes center stage in every crafted song.
From an early age, Greg felt at home on stage, finding comfort and freedom in self-expression. Learning to play the guitar at age 12, he quickly progressed to songwriting, honing both skills throughout his high school years. Collaborating with best friend Dylan Walker, they formed a pop/indie duo, embracing their favorite acts while creating a unique and authentic sound. Though Greg briefly attended Berklee College of Music, he soon realized that his true education would come from hands-on experience, spending countless hours working on music and learning the art of record-making.
After releasing an EP in 2018, the weight of an extensive backlog of songs began to suffocate Greg's creative spirit. Recognizing the need for a break, Greg and Dylan took time away from music, coinciding with the onset of the pandemic. During this period of introspection, Greg faced personal challenges, questioning his identity as an artist and grappling with the meaning of his craft. In the fall of 2020, a renewed inspiration sparked within him, and songs like "The Wind" and "Backseat" emerged as a testament to his revitalized creativity.
Throughout 2021, Greg focused on relearning commitment and consistency, steadily recording songs that reflected his newfound drive and dedication. Embracing the mantra of "now or never," he channeled his energy into daily artistic practice. In July 2022, "The Wind" became the first official Park Secret release, followed by captivating tracks like "Backseat" and "Microscope."
Greg's journey also involved reconciling his authentic voice as an artist. From initially emulating his musical influences in high school to embracing his true self after coming out as part of the LGBTQ community, Greg's artistry flourished when he fully accepted and expressed his queerness. Mental health struggles, particularly his battle with OCD, further shaped his music, serving as a therapeutic outlet for personal healing and connection with others.
Park Secret emerged as a platform for deep self-expression and authenticity. Initially exploring dark and introspective themes, Greg's turning point came when he realized the power of sharing these inner thoughts with others. By releasing these "dark secrets" and fostering a sense of community, Park Secret creates a safe space for individuals to connect and find solace in shared experiences. With a profound appreciation for nature's healing power, Park Secret's music invites listeners to let go, embracing their own secrets and finding freedom as human beings together.
